About event
🇨🇿 When conductor Klaus Mäkelä performed for the first time in 2023 in his Czech debut at Prague Spring, it was a sensation. The "Finnish miracle", as Lidové noviny called him at the time, who will take up the post of chief conductor of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra from 2027, is now returning to the festival with the Oslo Philharmonic, which he has been leading since 2020. And he will bring an exceptionally beautiful program of Czech and Finnish music: Dvořák's Cello Concerto in B minor with soloist Truls Mørk, who received a prestigious award for the recording of this piece ECHO Klassik, and the Lemminkäinen Suite by Jean Sibelius (1865–1957), inspired by the Finnish epic Kalevala. It will be extremely interesting to hear this dramatic music performed by Scandinavian musicians who have successfully recorded all of Sibelius' symphonies for Decca. "Mäkelä's cycle is compact, real, incisive and full of the beauty and plot twists that make these works eternally exciting," Gramophone magazine's critic reviewed it. The composition, which tells about the adventures of the Finnish shaman Lemminkäinen, gives Mäkelä and the Philharmonic the opportunity to bring us a world of colors and emotions that we have not yet known.
