About event
Just Courage
“When is someone truly courageous? What does courage mean in my life, and what does it actually yield?” In “Just Courage” Emmelie delves into the theme of courage, inspired by her grandmother's story: a resistance fighter in WWII, survivor of the Ravensbrück women's camp. Her bravery was limitless. But sometimes she feels that she is falling short. Why doesn't she stand up for the climate crisis, or protest for Gaza or Ukraine, as her grandmother might have done? Now that Emmelie is just 47, she longs for a second half of her life in which she can be just as lives courageously like her Grandma—for herself, but especially for her daughter. Courage takes many forms. It is in the ordinary courage to continue without, for example, the security of a job, to bear single motherhood, to keep hope while the world sometimes seems hopeless.
“In this performance/theater lecture I look for the balance between great and vulnerable courage, between my grandmother's past and my own struggle. Because maybe together we can discover that the world, and we ourselves, can be just a little braver. And hopefully you will walk out of the room with that realization—and a little more courage.”
