About event
The 23rd Žilina Missing Maps mapathon will take place live on the premises of the Faculty of Management and Informatics of the Žilina University in Žilina (Velky diel, RA building, room RA012) as part of the OSSConf 2026 conference (https://ossconf.fri.uniza.sk/) as well as online via Zoom on Thursday, July 2, 2026. 16:00 to 19:00.
Mapathon (mapping marathon) is open to the general public and there is no entrance fee. We will be there together creating a digital map based on satellite images for the humanitarian organization Doctors Without Borders. If you don't have experience with remote mapping, it doesn't matter. You will learn everything on the spot. After a short training in working with the iD editor, you will be able to map yourself. We also cordially invite experienced mappers who no longer need any training and just want to map undisturbed.
If you don't have an OpenStreetMap account yet, create one: https://www.openstreetmap.org/user/new.
We also have desktop computers in the classroom, but if you want, bring your own computer and mouse.
Registered online participants will be sent a Zoom link to the mapathon.
StreetComplete Žilina #3
The accompanying event of the mapathon as well as the conference itself will be the mapping of Žilina (outside the faculty campus) using the StreetComplete application on Friday, July 3, 2026, from 08:00 to 11:00. If you are interested in participating in field mapping (even complete beginners are welcome), then no later than Thursday 2.7. until 16:00, select "personal participation 3.7. - StreetComplete" among the mapathon tickets. You will be able to map Žilina to OpenStreetMap together with us even without participating in Thursday's mapathon.
We recommend that you have already created an account on OpenStreetMap and installed the application via GooglePlay link:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.westnordost.streetcomplete.
For those interested in StreetComplete mapping, we will send information about the meeting place to the registration form. e-mail.
