About event

The Feuerstein instrumental enrichment method (FIE) is an innovative approach that promotes the development of cognitive functions of children and adults. Its author, Reuven Feuerstein, created a system of work tools that requires special training. However, this course will show how the basic principles of the FIE method can be used even without original materials, when working with commonly available aids such as children's books, games or worksheets. The course is focused on working with children aged about 5-8 years, with the acquired skills to be easily transferred to other age groups.

target competences Enrichment,
• The ability to recognize and name individual cognitive functions in common situations,
• acquisition of procedures on how to deliberately develop these functions through commonly available didactic aids,
• Planning and reflection ability. The theory of cognitive functions and structural cognitive modifiability
• Basic principles of Feuerstein's instrumental enrichment method (FIE)
• Practical demonstrations of selected cognitive functions in school and everyday context by a book, game or worksheet to strengthen cognitive function
• Conclusion and reflection - transfer of knowledge to its own pedagogical practice

The course begins with the theoretical basis of Feuerstein's concept of structural cognitive modifiability. Participants will take more detail at what are cognitive functions, what types exist and how they manifest themselves in everyday thinking. This is followed by the FIE method itself, its key principles, and above all the principle of mediated learning, which is central for the whole approach. We will focus on how common situations - work with books, playing board games, filling of worksheet - can deliberately strengthen, for example, functions such as space orientation, language precision, perception of detail, planning or creation of strategies. Cognitive functions may develop in these activities. In conclusion, a common reflection will be made, during which the participants will consolidate the knowledge and think about how to apply the new skills in their practice.
