The meetup is organized by Prokop Hapala.
At this meetup I would like to present my vision of colonization of the Solar System and potential wars in space in the next century, which I have been developing for decades based on my physics knowledge and simulation programming. I would like to eventually translate these concepts into a computer game. I would like to introduce the Meetup with a short presentation of my vision, but I would like to devote a larger part to the discussion of different views and opinions.
My thesis:
The development of private spaceflight and reusable rockets has renewed interest in the expansion of humanity into space that fell with the end of the Cold War. However, mainstream ideas about space colonization remain naïve, limited by imagination as well as a lack of technical knowledge. There is no point in colonizing space in order to try to simulate life on Earth there - there is no point in looking for an inferior substitute for Earth. A universe with microgravity, unfathomable pure vacuum, and three Kelvins in the shade is certainly not a suitable environment for the life of today's man, but it is a perfect environment for the development of modern technology. Asteroids offer Earth's readily available sources of rare minerals, making them a key target for future colonization. Moreover, this wealth of resources and the specifics of the space environment open up questions of possible conflicts over resources – colonial wars that could be waged by post-humans or artificial intelligences. The struggle for resources has accompanied all forms of life since the beginning of biological history.
I look forward to a joint discussion on these questions and different perspectives.
