About event
It's strange how a person after fifty begins to reconcile with the fact that the best parties are behind him. That the time of big parties, long nights and songs that the whole hall knew by heart belongs somewhere in the last century. And then you only need to ask one single question and you will find that some things are not lost. They were just patiently waiting for the right moment.
A few days ago I asked you how many people from the class of 74 would still come to a proper summer party. And your answer honestly surprised me. Hundreds of comments, lots of memories and, above all, a huge desire to experience an evening again, when work, mortgages or who has to get up in the morning will not be discussed.
And that is how MEJDAN ’74 was born.
Don’t expect any modern party where people shoot videos on their phones all night. This will be a night for a generation that knew how to have fun long before anyone invented social media. An evening when music from the eighties and nineties will be played, when glasses will be toasted, choruses will be sung, and maybe for a few hours we will go back to the times when we had a little less and the world seemed simpler.
On Friday, August 14, 2026, a group of people will gather in Prague's Slovak House on Soukenická Street, who share the same year of birth and perhaps similar memories. Each guest will receive a welcome drink, a bottle of champagne and most of all an atmosphere that no streaming service or TV show can buy.
And because I know that the best parties are not for crowds, the number of guests will be symbolic. Only seventy-four people. Seventy-four places for a generation that perhaps deserves to be reminded that life is not measured by the number of candles on the cake, but by the number of evenings that will be remembered for a long time.
Maybe we are getting old. But we certainly haven't forgotten how to celebrate.
