About event
The performance will be presented with English subtitles. / We will present the performance with English subtitles.
Theatrical performance MEDÚZA V KUCHYNI was supposed to be part of the competitive selection of productions that are applying for the prestigious award Grand Prix Nová dráma / New Drama in 2026. 9 productions of contemporary drama from established and non-established professional theaters were included in the main program of the festival. The New Drama 2026 dramaturgical board chose from among more than 90 productions, the premiere of which took place from February 1, 2025 to January 31, 2026. However, the Ministry of Culture limited the funding of the Theater Institute, so the festival will not take place in its traditional form with competitive performances. However, its continuity will be maintained through the Fragments of New Drama event. More info at: https://www.novadrama.sk/
However, we will perform our performance at the originally planned date and time.
We created the theater performance MEDUZA IN THE KITCHEN based on the original play Medusa by Uršula Kovalyk. We were loosely inspired by the ancient Greek story of Medusa the Gorgon and looked for parallels with the stories of homeless women you meet on the street every day.
What connects the homeless woman and the mythological Medusa? During artistic work with homeless actresses, we often touched on various pains, but the most poignant of them was the trauma of sexual violence they experienced on the street. Each of them overcame it in a different way, some treated their injuries in a "jellyfish-like" way. The journey from initial pain through anger to finding strength again is long and complex.
In our theatrical story, Medusa became a symbol of homeless women who survived sexual violence and decided to get rid of the feeling of guilt.
The performance is intended for audiences aged 16 and over.
Entrance is free.
The performance will be followed by a short discussion, in which you will be able to ask our actors and actresses what you are interested in.
Length of the performance including discussion: 90 minutes.
