Masterclass s Ivanom Neherom: Alternatívne fotografické techniky - Kalitypia

📸 We cordially invite you to the next in a series of courses with Ivan Neher dedicated to alternative photography techniques, this time on the topic KALITYPIA. The Masterclass is part of the program of the 35th Month of Photography.

👉In 1889, W. W. J. Nicol patented the first iron-silver process and is generally considered the inventor of the callitype. Calitype is a process based on a combination of silver and iron salts. This process contains the image in the paper and is a development process using a developer, unlike other techniques where the development takes place in water (VanDyke, argyrotype, cyanotype). Of these processes, it is callitype that allows control of the contrasts and colors of the resulting image through the developer and toning.
Image production takes place by standard contact copying from digital or silver-gelatin negatives using natural or artificial UV radiation.
The sensitizing solution is a very simple mixture of two salts and the developer is available within the normal chemistry used in the food industry. Watercolor paper is used, preferably with 25-100% cotton. The technique is not complicated or dangerous, even for photographers who are new to historical techniques. Despite the similarity to some historical techniques, it allows a greater variety of work to influence the final image. After completing the course, each participant should be able to master this technique at home and with a minimum of special aids. The work completed during the course remains the property of the course participant.
