Martin Horička: So Sovietskym zväzom na večné časy / uvedenie knihy a diskusia s autorom

Come to the Artforum bookstore to welcome the new book by historian Martin Horička, which maps the period 1945 - 1948. The book will be baptized by Roman Holec, moderated by Eva Škorvánková.

In this work, the author focuses on 4 years that determined the direction of Czechoslovakia for the next decades. Based on historical sources, it explains how the democratic, pro-Western republic became a satellite of the Soviet Union after World War II and why Czechs and Slovaks found themselves imprisoned behind the Iron Curtain for more than 40 years.

He pays attention not only to foreign policy, but also to the way the Soviets subjugated domestic elites, economy and culture. The geopolitical dilemmas that Czechoslovakia faced at the beginning of the Cold War are still relevant today. However, we have one great advantage - the past can be a warning for us.
