Margarete Schütte-Lihotzky and the settler movement

Learn more about the impressive work of Margarete Schütte-Lihotzky and her role in the settler movement.

Already confronted with the issue of workers' housing as a student, the architect Margarete Lihotzky (1897-2000) soon shines with well-thought-out solutions to the housing crisis. Social commitment, rational analysis and high-quality design characterize her work. At Friedensstadt she works for Adolf Loos. When Josef Frank invites her to plan terraced houses for the Werkbundsiedlung, she is currently working on the city of Frankfurt's building program as an expert for typification in residential construction.
