About event

“In order to understand the normal, you must first have studied the crazy,” is the thesis of Manfred Lütz, theologian, psychiatrist and psychotherapist and also a best-selling author and cabaret artist. His bestseller "Insane - We treat the wrong people. Our problem is the normal ones" sold almost a million copies, but since then the insane have apparently taken over the government of the world. So he wrote a new version with “Donald Trump Update”. But the substance of the book remained an introduction to the oddities of the human soul, to the impressive world of dementia sufferers, schizophrenics, depressives and much more.
In the cabaret program for the book, Lütz achieves the feat of presenting psychiatry and psychotherapy in an entertaining and generally understandable way based on the current state of science. At the same time, you can look forward to a social analysis peppered with satirical humor that sharply takes aim at all the insanely and stupidly normal people and leads to astonishing insights. An evening that has it all.
Look forward to Lütz's “Instructions for extraordinary people and those who want to become extraordinary people”.

Manfred Lütz was born in Bonn in 1954, where he also grew up. He studied medicine and Catholic theology and was chief physician at the Alexianer Hospital in Cologne, a specialist psychiatric clinic, for many years. In addition to his medical work, he is known as a best-selling author and combines specialist knowledge with humor in his books. His best-known works include "Crazy! We treat the wrong people, a critical examination of psychiatry", and "God - A short history of the greatest", which makes theological questions understandable. Lütz appears regularly as a speaker and is known for his trenchant analyzes of social issues. He has been involved in an integrative youth group of disabled and non-disabled teenagers and young adults in Bonn since 1981, is publicly present in discussions on church and ethical issues and advocates for an appreciative view of mental illness. In 2018 he was even appointed “Consultant of the Congregation for the Clergy” by Pope John Paul II and in the same year organized a congress in the Vatican on the subject of “Abuse of children and young people by Catholic priests and religious”. To this day he is committed to the topic and intervenes knowledgeably in the social debate on it. Dr. Manfred Lütz is married, has two daughters and lives near Bonn.
