The final, fourth chapter of the Photographer of the Festival presents the work of ten artists in the MeetFactory gallery. The central work is a five-channel projection of Japanese artist Meiro Koizumi's Theater of Life from 2023. When invited to the 14th Biennale in Kwangju, South Korea in 2023, the artist prepared with emigrants of Korean origin who fled from Russia to South Korea before the war in Ukraine, unusual video production. Inspired by the traditional Korean theater of Goryeo, founded in the 1930s by Koreans deported to Kazakhstan, these emigrants focused on questions of cultural identity that allowed them to confront their own situation. This resulted in a poetic projection, full of feelings of alienation, sadness and longing, at the same time radiating not only energy, but also dignity and determination.

The Center of Europe series of photographs from 2020 by the artist Alina Bliumis from Belarus will also be on display. The series documents various places that are referred to as the center of Europe, whether in Belarus, Slovakia, or Poland. The 2021 collection of photographs by Ukrainian artist Yevgenia Belorusets Kristina’s Tag documents with riveting immediacy the everyday life of Roma communities forced to leave their homes due to the war. Slovak artist of Roma origin Emília Rigová will stage her own Altar from artifacts related to her identity.

Identity is also discussed in the contributions of two representatives of the Vietnamese community in Prague. The 12-minute film Love, Dad from 2021 by Diana Cam Van Nguyen, awarded internationally with several awards, humorously and above all skilfully using the technical possibilities of animated film, tells about the conflict between Vietnamese traditional norms and the expectations of contemporary liberal society. The question of cultural identity is also addressed by Ming Thang Pham, who currently lives in Vietnam to learn the traditional, 8,000-year-old technique of lacquer painting. His experiments with this technique will be presented for the first time at this exhibition. The fate of the labor force coming from Vietnam, especially the seamstresses in Czechoslovakia in the 1970s and 1980s, in conjunction with the fate of sewing shirts for Russian soldiers on Czech territory after 1968, is addressed in the 2008 video Stitches by Sráč Sam, located at the end of a wooden tunnel.

The two-channel projection Memory is an Animal Which Barks With Various Mouths from 2023 by the artist Jeanna Kolesová from Russia, which skillfully uses the latest electronic possibilities, is about memory, the manipulation of historical memory and the creation of false myths of heroism . In another two-channel installation SURFACES THAT MATTER: Youth Day 1988 from 2022, the Serbian artist Marta Popivoda, in collaboration with Ana Vujanović, deals with mass psychoses arising under the influence of ideology and the relationship of the individual to the mass based on real performances organized in Yugoslavia. At the same time, this projection can also be understood as a reference to the exciting performances at today's pop concerts. The nine-minute film Thyroxia from 2023 by the Belarusian artist performing under the pseudonym Ptushka and the Georgian artist Keto Gorgadze testifies to a shocking document about the irresponsible handling of the imminent danger after the nuclear explosion in Chernobyl in 1986, which was also motivated by a ruthless colonial approach to neighboring countries.

The exhibition section of the 14th Fotograf Festival “Make Voices Be Heard” lends a voice to artists whose films, installations, performances, photographs, and images explore prejudiced behavior towards various ethnic, religious, and LGBTQIA+ groups, as well as the impact of colonialism and colonial thought, which is predicated on racism, in the regions of Central and Eastern Europe and Central Asia, all of which were under the influence of the Soviet Union. The exhibition project is divided into four chapters that take place in four gallery spaces in Prague: the Fotograf Gallery, etc., hunt kastner, and MeetFactory.

The fourth and final chapter of the Fotograf Festival introduces the work of ten artists at the MeetFactory gallery. Central to the exhibition is Japanese artist Meiro Koizumi's 2023 five-channel projection, Theater of Life. When Koizumi was invited to the 14th biennale in the South Korean city of Gwangju, he collaborated with people of Korean origin who had escaped Russia for South Korea after the beginning of the war in Ukraine to create an unusual video performance. Taking their inspiration from the traditional Korean Goryeo theater, established in the 1930s by Koreans deported to Kazakhstan, the émigrés focused on issues of cultural identity that allowed them to confront their own situation. The result is a poetic installation filled with alienation, sadness, and desire, radiating not only energy but also dignity and determination.

Belarusian artist Alina Bliumis will present a series of photographs created in 2020 titled Center of Europe. The series documents various locations that are sometimes referred to as the center of Europe, found in Belarus, Slovakia, and Poland. Ukrainian artist Yevgenie Belorusets's 2021 collection of photographs Kristina's Tag documents with thrilling immediacy the everyday life of Roma communities that had to leave their homes due to the war. Slovak Romani artist Emília Rigová will stage her own Altar (Altar), composed of artefacts relating to her identity.

Identity is also the subject of contributions by two representatives of the Vietnamese community in Prague. The twelve-minute film Love, Dad (2021) by Diana Cam Van Nguyen, an internationally acclaimed film that has been awarded multiple prizes, is a humorous and dexterously animated short about the conflicts between traditional Vietnamese norms and the expectations of contemporary liberal society. Ming Thang Pham also explores issues of cultural identity. He currently lives in Vietnam where he is studying the traditional, 8000-year-old technique of lacquer painting. His experiments with this technique will be introduced at this exhibition for the first time. The fate of Vietnamese workers, especially seamstresses in the 1970s and '80s, in connection with her own fate sewing shirts for Russian soldiers in Czechoslovakia after 1968, is the subject of Šičky (The Seamstresses, 2008) by Sráč Sam, located at the end of the wooden tunnel.

Memory, the manipulation of historical memory, and the creation of false heroic myths are the subjects of Memory is an Animal Which Barks With Various Mouths, a 2023 video by Jeanna Kolesová, a Russian artist who proficiently uses the most up-to-date possibilities of electronic equipment. In another two-channel installation, SURFACES THAT MATTER: Youth Day 1988 (2022), Serbian artist Marta Popivoda – in collaboration with Ana Vujanović – explores mass psychoses born under the influence of ideology, and the relationship of the individual to the masses on the basis of real performances organized in Yugoslavia. At the same time, this screening can also be understood as a reference to the gripping performances at today's pop concerts. The Belarusian artist working under the moniker Ptuška and Georgian artist Keto Gorgadze introduce their Thyroxia (2023), a chilling document of the irresponsible response to the threats present after the Chernobyl nuclear explosion in 1986, which was also motivated by Russia's thoughtless colonial approach to neighboring countries.
