In Algeria in the thirties, the French official Meursault leads a rather stereotypical life. Once he accidentally sees a dispute between his friend Raymond and some dubious Arab acquaintances and unexpectedly shoots one of them dead. The court case retrospectively reveals the motives of the murder, which also leads to the reconstruction of Meursault's relationship with the closest people. The unconcealed indifference towards the deceased mother or partner Maria is difficult for others to understand. The man is imprisoned and sentenced to death for his act. Visconti cast European film stars Marcello Mastroianni and Anna Karina in the main roles.

The screening is part of a tour dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the death of Luchino Visconti, one of the key personalities of Italian and world cinema, whose work fundamentally shaped the history of film art and neorealism.
