About event
Linda Viková's exhibition provides an insight into her artistic practice in the medium of clay on the floor plan of 2020–2025. Her work is anchored in direct contact with the materiality of ceramics and porcelain and has long been moving on a flexible trajectory of design and sculpture. She herself declares her relationship to ceramics as unconditional, but she is not subject to the tyranny of technology, she bypasses the traps of hermetic sentimentalism and reforms her position through concentrated material research.
(Not only) she conducts glaze experiments with respect for the modernist tradition and at the same time directs her to the mirror of ethical and ecological responsibility. Does the ceramic discipline today need the toxicity of metal oxides or does it make sense to think through recycling and experiment, e.g. with cellulose or ash? With her objects and vessels, Linda Viková discusses craft as one of the horizons of art (Glenn Adamson), looks for stimulating historical and strong contemporary stories, tests the ceramic medium in interdisciplinary collaborations (e.g. with Patrícia Koyšová). The exhibition is thus not only a gallery presentation of works, in its dramaturgy the research line has an important place, such as a video documentary (in collaboration with Vladimíra Hradecká) and a visual library of glaze experiments.
The experimental film Afterfire, which explores the parallels between the process of glazing ceramics and transformations in nature, will also be part of the exhibition. Glaze becomes a metaphor for ecosystems balancing between preservation and destruction. Afterfire is a visual meditation on the crisis of perception, which opens up space for a different view of matter, processes and our presence in them.

In addition to her independent art practice, she has been working together with Simona Janišová in the si.li design studio, which specializes in everyday ceramics, since 2012.
