About event
The Linha de Sombra bookstore and the publisher Sistema Solar - Documenta invite all cinephiles to the launch of the book ENTRE O GRANITE E O ARCO-ÍRIS • CINEMA AS A METAMORPHOSIS OF INTERIOR EXPERIENCE • José Bogalheiro • 2024 Sistema Solar - Documenta 153 pgs • The book will be presented by António Guerreiro, with comments by Ricardo Vieira Lisboa.
On the cover: still from the film QUE VIVA MÉXICO!, 1932, by Sergei M. Eisenstein • Released on December 6, 2024, Friday, at 6:30 pm, at Cinemateca Portuguesa.
“Pier Paolo Pasolini, who had been involved in a «war led by himself on two fronts» that, generically, could be identified as angry poetry and revolutionary politics, in his dual capacity as poet and philologist, knew well the art of production of brilliant images and, «more modern than any modern person / looking for brothers who no longer exist», he had dedicated himself to it since his youth. However, his impulse towards cinema, which was born from a natural figurative taste and his great passion for painting, would face the toughest test when he made the film Il Vangelo secondo Matteo (The Gospel According to Matthew, 1964), the only time when he was about to give up, although, I will say, through a «dislocation / on which life and death depend: through the centuries of centuries», Pasolini ended up doing full justice to his statement according to which «cinema is in practice as a life after death”. .centro_de_pesquisa
