Kyrgyzské příbuzenství

Ethnologist Petr Kokaisl's lecture will present the specifics of the Kyrgyz kinship system, which still significantly influences social and political life in Kyrgyzstan. It will focus on the patrilineal principle of derivation of descent, the tradition of "jeti ata" - the knowledge of seven male ancestors - and the importance of lineage in creating social ties, assistance or political alliances. Examples from field research will show how the traditional family structure is reflected in everyday life and modern society.

The lecture from the Genealogy+ series is organized by the National Library of the Czech Republic in cooperation with the Czech Genealogical and Heraldic Society in Prague.
