Anthemic Britpop, psychedelic rock sound and a good portion of Indian music - a musical mix with which the British band Kula Shaker has been shaking up the scene for 30 years now. It all started when singer Crispian Mills took a trip to India, which would greatly influence their later musical output, from the band's name, inspired by an Indian holy king, to the instrumentation in the seven studio albums to date. From the very beginning, traditional Indian instruments such as sitar, tabla and tambura permeate the significant Kula Shaker sound, which in some places also contains spiritual Sanskrit chants. A concept that is very well received: their debut album “K” reached number one in the British album charts in 1996. This was followed by various top 10 hits, headline shows at the famous Glastonbury Festival and Oasis support slots at the Britpop band's Knebworth show, which is still important to this day. Another album, “Peasants, Pigs & Astronauts,” was released at the beginning of 1999 before the Kula Shaker project was put on ice for the time being. Five years later, the Brits came back stronger and began to release successful studio albums at high speed. From the very beginning, it was above all the exciting live performance with which Kula Shaker not only conquered the stages of Great Britain and beyond, but also colorfully stood out from the emphasized coolness of Britpop. An art that the group has mastered to this day - and will demonstrate again on their upcoming tour early next year. The Brits have their eighth studio album “Wormslayer” with them, which will be released on January 30th and organically adds another work to the Kula Shaker discography. The band will present the new long player on four dates in February and March 2026 here in Germany!
