About event
🇩🇪 Where to turn when everything is difficult? - open lecture on federalism in Germany
🗓 December 11, Thursday, 19:00
📍 Quarteera Community Center Berlin
➡️ Registration
We constantly encounter the German state - in letters, in queues, in absurd (sometimes) demands.
And every time questions arise:
Where do we go when everything goes wrong? To whom? Which office? Who is responsible anyway?
📚In this lecture we will put (almost) everything into pieces!
What we will talk about:
🔹how the Bund, Länder and Kommunen differ - and why these are not just three words, but three different levels of power;
🔹why your land decides so much (even what seems to be a “federal matter”);
🔹who influences migration decisions, and who influences schools, housing and the police;
🔹what is the Bundesrat and how can it “stop” any law;
🔹where to complain if the department made a mistake;
🔹how in Germany the path of any problem goes - from the office in the district to the Constitutional courts.
There will be many examples from real life - about Jobcenter, Ausländerbehörde, Jugendamt, schools, crisis centers and everything that each and every one of us faces.
Why is this important:
🔸Because when you don’t understand who makes the decision, it seems that the system is chaotic and is meaningless.
🔸And also because federalism in Germany is not just a “story about the lands”, but a real mechanism for protecting against the concentration of power.
Format: Live conversation + analysis of situations + a little bit of law
You can come without preparation!
❗️Not private consultation.
With the support of Landeskommission Berlin gegen Gewalt.
