About event
A walk through the Royal Garden at Prague Castle with Prague with your eyes wide open.
The creation of the Royal Garden significantly contributed to the transformation of Prague Castle from a medieval castle complex into a Renaissance residence for members of the royal family. The walk will start at the Royal Summer Palace, where participants will remember the reign of the garden's founder, Ferdinand I. Habsburg, and his happy marriage with Anna Jagiellon, whose name is also associated with the summer palace. While walking through the garden, the next stop will be at another Renaissance building - the Míčovna - where garden parties and games were held, the organization of which was personally organized by the son of Ferdinand I. and Anna, Archduke Ferdinand, who represented the interests of the Habsburg family in Bohemia for twenty years. But the garden was visited by members of royal families even in the recent past, when they came to Prague as guests of President Václav Havel. The walk also follows in the footsteps of today's British King Charles III, who visited the garden as the Prince of Wales, or the former Spanish King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia.
Czechoslovak communist presidents also made their mark in the history of the garden, who lived in the presidential apartment in another of the buildings that were built in the garden - at that time, however, the garden was usually closed to visitors. The program of the outing will therefore also include a mention of the presidents' residence in the castle grounds. The greenhouses, in which beautiful flowers are still grown to decorate the castle premises, will not be left out.
Across the Deer Moat, a view of the northern fortifications of the castle and the towers there, which in the past also served as a prison, opens up. The memory will therefore also be dedicated to several personalities who were interned in this part of the Castle - it was not only the knight Dalibor, whom she allegedly "barely taught how to play".
