"The Musical of the Totalitarian Age" is the subtitle of the film Smoke, in which Tomáš Vorel based his second famous school film ING. (1985), which, however, underwent many changes here. In fact, only the axis of the story remained: a young engineer arrives at his first workplace with the intention of working, which, however, turns out to be a shocking fad in the bizarre conditions of the era of the last years of totalitarian convulsions. With his unusually normal attitude, Mirek sets the course of "local" history in motion, and thus social evil (personified by incompetent bosses) is currently overthrown by a righteously indignant, awakened crowd, and a new order is established, which, however, in many ways begins to resemble the old order, turned upside down. He collaborated on the script with Tomáš Vorl, head of one of the theaters of the Prague Five, Lumír Tuček from the Forward Recitation Group. The film has a poetics typical of the aforementioned community: the blending of the serious with the frivolous, irony with admiration, reality with the bizarre, reality with the absurd.
