About event

Anti-Semitism and Islamophobia are significant forms of religious and "racially" motivated discrimination that shape Western society today. Although often examined separately, there are continuities between them that point to persistent patterns of hatred. Motifs and stereotypes once used against Jews (especially in the 19th century) are today applied to Muslims in literature, ideological constructs, media and political discourse. We will try to discuss the similarities in the narratives and rhetorical patterns that go from anti-Semitism to Islamophobia, and how these interconnected patterns affect contemporary forms of discrimination.

The fifteenth lecture will be led by Katarína Csikosová, a doctoral student at the Department of Comparative Religious Studies, where specializes in research on anti-Semitism, Islamophobia and far-right movements in Central Europe.
