Chamber concerts and dialogues:
Portrait of the composer Iris Szeghy
As part of the project Chamber concerts and dialogues in the Old Lyceum, an event dedicated to the outstanding personality of Slovak musical culture, Iris Szeghy, will take place on Tuesday, April 28, 2026 at 6:00 p.m. in the Great Evangelical Church on Panenská Street in Bratislava. We invite you to a meeting with the jubilant composer also because of the remarkable coincidence of our starting points in the sense that we consider dialogue to be an important and irreplaceable form of communication.
Iris Szeghy says that for her music is a desire for monologue and dialogue at the same time. This general thesis appears concretely in the composer's permanent dialogue with nature and art, with music of the past and present, with literature, poetry, works of visual art, existential questions of the individual and the society in which he lives, but not least in the dialogue with the audience. We are therefore looking forward to drawing a human and artistic portrait of the composer in a dialogue with Iris Szeghy, with a focus on the named sources of inspiration and the compositional techniques and specifics with which she transforms them into music. By looking into the structure of individual compositions, revealing the diverse ways of functioning of words and music, we will create a basis for accepting their important messages. Let's add that we will listen to the works of Iris Szegha together - if you accept our invitation - in the best company - in dialogue with the choral overtures of Johann Sebastian Bach.
