Komentovaná prehliadka s autorkou a kurátorkou k výstave Overlooked Territory Ľudmily H. Machovej

On Friday, November 21, at 4 p.m., we cordially invite you to the Medium Gallery for a guided tour of the Overlooked Territory exhibition with author Ľudmila Hubová Machová and curator Viktória Pardovičová. The exhibition will last only until November 23.

The project Overlooked Territory by the painter and visual artist Ľudmila H. Machová follows on from her residency in Paris and earlier projects Synanthrope (2024) or Archivist of Hybrids (2023). By sensitively observing and investigating the urban environment, shaped by technological planning and the typically human-shaped urban territory, the author gets to study specific forms of life - synanthropic plant species and weeds. He perceives them as an actor, able to resist adverse conditions and thus represent an alternative (often an unwanted revival) of concrete fields or strictly shaped and expensively maintained gardens. Through a spatial installation of paintings, objects and photographs, the author records, modifies and develops the narratives of these plants as a specific co-population of the city. In the cracks, niches and other (inter)spaces, situations and partnerships are then born, which, with their capacity for resistance and resilience, remind us of the need to return to empathy and non-hierarchical interspecies cooperation, but also the determination to face normative frameworks and dictated power structures.

Ľudmila Hubová Machová (*1990) studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava, she also graduated an internship at the University of Porto, Faculty of Fine Arts in Portugal or a residency in Paris at the Cité internationale des Arts (2024) under the auspices of VŠVU/AFAD. In 2017 and 2018, she was a finalist for the VÚB Foundation Award. He regularly participates in group exhibitions at home and abroad. Her independent projects included, for example, exhibitions at Medium Gallery in Bratislava, Liptovska Gallery P.M. Bohúňa, the City Gallery in Rimavská Sobota, the Nitrian Gallery or the Basement Studio in Olomouc. Her works, based on the medium of painting, naturally transform into object-based, multi-media installations. By means of expanded image forms, photographs, but also sound recordings, he explores the boundaries of landscape areas and urban environments or the relationships between organic bodies of plants and synthetic materials. The projects of Ľudmila H. Machová thus oscillate between imagination-stimulating environments of hybrid forms of entities – objects, images, shapes and meanings, but also open up the discourse of the coexistence of plant species, overlooked spaces or human (de)structured forms of receptivity.
