About event
👨🏽🔬 🔬 Physicist and science popularizer Samuel Kováčik, creator of the Vedátor project, is coming to the Book Galaxy at KKC Hviezda with his new book Limits of Knowledge: The Way There and Even More.
📚 We invite you to an evening full of interesting views of the world, inspiring thoughts and the search for the limits of human knowledge.
🧬 Curiosity and the desire to discover are in our genes. This is also why our ancestors went through deserts, mountains and seas. We want to know what atoms are made of, how radio works, when the sun will go out. Some are more curious, others less so. Scientists are people who have dedicated their whole lives to curiosity and try to approach it systematically and responsibly.
They want to maximize the chances of finding the right answers to the questions that interest them. This book is about knowledge. About theories, about how knowledge arises and what it represents for us. We created large telescopes, particle accelerators tens of kilometers long, mapped the human genome. We are building something that goes beyond us and is related to our deep essence - we look at ourselves through the universe.
☄️ Samuel Kováčik was not fascinated by the universe from an early age, but when it came, it came full circle. The universe attracted him with its strangeness - black holes, quantum physics or the structure of time and space. He also deals with the quantum structure of space in his research, from theoretical mathematical foundations to possible observations and phenomena. In addition, it popularizes science. He founded the Vedátor project, makes the Vedátor podcast and wrote the books Ordinary Miracles, Bits of Reality, The Limits of Knowledge and Conversations about the Universe. For his popularization activities, he was among the finalists of the Falling Walls Lab in Berlin, was nominated for the Kaliga prize and won the Science and Technology Prize 2021 in the category popularization of science.
💫 Ticket price: €5 in advance, €8 on the spot
You can buy tickets online, at the Cultural and Information Center or directly before the event in Hviezda.
