During the guided tour, we will focus on understanding beauty in the visual culture of the early modern period. We are particularly interested in the idea of ​​human beauty - physical and mental - and the ways in which these two levels intertwined. What ideas did there be about the perfect man and a woman? What were the virtues of beauty? But the image of beauty was not complete without its contradiction - ugliness. We will observe its transformations, places where pain, physical suffering, tense realism or monstrous form of the body emerge. We will plant all this in the context of the early modern theory of painting - what did the "beautiful picture" mean at that time and what ideal the artist should follow?
