LUSK DIZEHAN means "constant movement" in Breton. It is both the name and essence of the developing photographic project of Kleze Brandar. Since its inception in 2016, LUSK DIZEHAN has been transformed into a series of exhibitions capturing the essence of contemporary times: the constant movement of society, the tension between tradition and progress, and the human stories that connect them all. Each part of the project represents a capture of Brandar's journey, both literal and symbolic, during which he tries to understand and interpret the world through his lens.
Klez Brandar is a photographer, actor, skateboarder and musician born in October 1984 in Nantes, France. He speaks English, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and Breton, and is also trying to speak Czech. He has been living in Prague for more than ten years. In his work, he focuses on photography, film and music and often explores the relationship between tradition and contemporary life. Projects like LUSK DIZEHAN reflect his interest in movement, culture and human stories. He uses analog and digital processes to create images with significant depth and timeless character.
For this exhibition, LUSK DIZEHAN // 10, Brandar worked closely with Prague photographer Honzo Sakař. Together, during a one-year creative process, they created a body of work that is both technically innovative and meaningfully sophisticated. The photographs were hand-printed by Honza in his studio darkroom as tintypes – a 19th-century direct positive wet collodion technique known for its characteristic depth, character and durability. Honza is professionally engaged in portrait photography and has been developing the wet collodion technique for the past eleven years. He recently designed and built a sophisticated direct digital-to-analog enlarger that allows these silver photographs to be created on aluminum plates regardless of the technique or camera used to take them. The chosen creative process gives the works uniqueness, a historical dimension and an emphasis on craftsmanship, thus connecting the past with the present.
Each work in the exhibition exists in a strictly limited edition of one to three pieces, thanks to which each photograph retains its rarity and collectible value. A unique number is indicated on the back of each print as a subtle confirmation of exclusivity and a thoughtful approach to creation.
LUSK DIZEHAN is an invitation to stop and reflect on the constant movement that shapes human lives. Through these images, Brandar encourages the viewer to look for meaning even in fleeting moments and perceive the stories that connect people.
