Karol Wojtyla - brother of our God
Theater in Celetná
Translation: Valerie Látalová
Directed, Edit: Petr Lanta
dramaturgy: Jindřich Veselý
dramaturgical cooperation: Alžběta Petrová Řezníček Kuna, Filip, Halbich, Jan Frič, etc. The liturgy resembles the theater - after all, the priest "plays" Christ, especially in transformation, but in the liturgy is not played "just as", the priest presents Christ (at least in terms of his and ceremony), in real or sacramentally. The everyday life could also be understood as a theater of its kind - constant improvisation at the theater in the world, in which we play ourselves (better or worse), but even here we usually do not perceive it "just as", we undress in death (and who knows if). Somewhere in the space between these two poles, the theater-negotiations "only as": neither literality nor the sacrament ..... (J.V.)
The brother of our God is Wojtylov's first "adult" game, worked on it in 1944-50. Its central character is Adam Chmielowski (1845 - 1916), an impressionist painter who became a monk and accepted the name Albert. It is not a traditional biographical drama, Wojtyl himself writes that "it is an attempt to penetrate the soul of man". Adam faces an inner struggle in an effort to decide between the life of the artist and the profession to serve others. He fights the inner struggle, oscillates among the art he tried to express the beauty of the spiritual world, and the desire to penetrate the mystery of God through the poor. - The main idea of drama stands on the anthropological concept that man was created by God and carries his image. So he does not have to look for his Creator far, but can look into his heart or the heart of another person ....
Czech premiere.
