The 75 Years of Rio Reiser and R. P. S. Lanrue Tour
Is there a German rock band whose songs have hardly lost any of their relevance even after over 50 years?
Probably not many, but certainly one:
Ton Steine Scherben.
Ton Steine Scherben was founded in West Berlin in 1970 by R. P. S. Lanrue
(real name Ralph Peter Steitz), Rio Reiser (real name Ralph Möbius),
Kaisichtermann and Wolfgang Seidel,
who were all around 20 years old at the time.
After the early death of their singer Rio Reiser (†1996), the band was back on stage in various formations in the new millennium.
Two Ur-Scherben are still touring through German-speaking countries to this day:
Kaisichtermann (bass, since 1970) and drummer
Funky K. Götzner (from 1974, now Cajón).
Since April 2023 they have been playing together with the singer/songwriter nomad Birte Volta
(vocals, guitar).
Birte internalizes both Folk blues as well as the resulting rock'n'roll with
passion and poetry and draws on many years of street and stage experience at home and
abroad, with her solo project as well as as a singer and guitarist in various formations
of these genres.
The trio draws from the repertoire of Rio Reiser`s, R.P.S. Lanrue's and the shards and keeps the memories of a rebellious time alive:
The radicalism of the shards, which was a lived everyday radicality... with values, heart and ideals!
