About event
Josef AUL, a Czechoslovak doctor, traveler and writer, wrote the novel Dervish in the Desert (1937) almost a hundred years ago, in which he depicted the world of Islamic mysticism, including an almost documentary description of the phenomenon of dervishness. He drew on his experiences in exile in the Uzbek Bukhara during and after the First World War.
The 65th Field Publishing House has republished the book and invites you to its launch with a lecture and discussion on Thursday, January 23, 2025 from 6 p.m. to the Thimble Museum in Prague.
Biologist, philosopher and traveler Stanislav Komárek accepted the invitation, who will talk about his experiences with dervishes in Istanbul, Bronislav Ostřanský, an Islamologist and Arabist who will introduce the audience to Islamic mysticism and Sufism, researcher Martin Blažek and, last but not least, the daughter of dr. Aula Marta Skárová. Hosted by publisher Tomáš Brandejs and book editor Adam Folta.
