About event

The final concert of the spring series of Baroque Evenings will present the listeners with an exceptional phenomenon connecting opera and church music of the 18th century. This will happen through the work of Johann Adolf Hasse (1699–1783), who in his person combined the German musical tradition with the masterfully controlled Italian operatic style. His wife, who was the most important soprano of her time, the Venetian Faustina Bordoni, undoubtedly played an important role in this. The extraordinary popularity of Italian opera arias led to their frequent transliteration with Latin texts so that they could also be used as part of the liturgy. A remarkable number of these so-called counterfactuals have been preserved in the music collection of the Metropolitan Cathedral of St. It has been welcoming in Prague since the 1830s.

The Collegium Marianum ensemble together with the soprano Pavla Radostová will present selected counterfactuals in a modern premiere. The Prague audience will thus have a unique opportunity to hear the music that sounded more than three hundred years ago in the St. Vitus Cathedral in Hradčany. The program of the concert will be completed by Hasse's opera and oratorio arias in Italian and a flute concerto in B minor.

From 18:00 to 18:30 there will be a lecture by dr. Milady Jonášová on the topic of Italian opera arias by the German composer in the Prague Cathedral of St. Welcome.
