About event
Icons of Tuva throat singing and nomadic musical traditions
Tuva, together with neighboring regions, is the cradle of a fascinating vocal discipline called throat singing. Thanks to the harmonic tones, it makes it possible to create sound colors hitherto unknown to Europeans and even to sing several notes at once. Huun-Huur-Tu has been one of the most important representatives of this genre for more than 30 years. They have performed all over the world and presented themselves on platforms such as BBC, KEXP, collaborated with Frank Zappa, Bobby McFerrin and the Kronos Quartet and many others. Through the skillful use of harmonics and overtones, it creates sound textures unlike anything in the Western musical tradition, allowing singers to produce multiple pitches simultaneously. For more than 30 years, Huun Huur Tu have been among the world's foremost representatives of this remarkable genre. They have performed on stages across the globe, appeared on platforms such as BBC and KEXP, and collaborated with artists including Frank Zappa, Bobby McFerrin, Kronos Quartet, and many others.
