About event
Listen to the symphony of colors and tones that we have prepared for you on the occasion of the name day of one of the most important Slovak artists. We invite you to the Music at Martin Benko's concert, which will pay tribute not only to the art of painting, but also to Benko's love for music. We invite you to the Slovak National Museum in Martin - the Martin Benka Museum on Wednesday, November 5 and November 12, 2025 at 5:00 p.m. The concert is realized with the financial support of the city of Martin.
Although Martin Benka is known as the founder of Slovak modern art, very little is known about his musical activities. Benka was an excellent violinist (he learned to play the violin at the age of 13) and even composed his own musical works.
The concert will feature a unique staging of Benko's musical work performed by a string quartet conducted by Marián Kramár. Visitors will be able to listen not only to the little-known works of the painter himself, but also to the works of his favorite composers.
The musical side of Benko's life was reflected not only in his painting and graphic art, in which he often drew inspiration from music, but also in other projects, such as the design of a cubist violin, which he designed and edited himself. In the studios in Prague and Martin, he regularly organized private concerts and played with string quartets for his loved ones. In the studio of his villa on Kuzmány Street in Martina, he had a music stage built just for this occasion.
entrance fee: €15
