"I can promise you nothing but blood, hard work, sweat and tears." Exactly 85 years ago, a speech was made in Britain, which entered history. It was made by British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, who tried to burst the public in times of imminent German invasion. She had destroyed the world a long time ago.
At the beginning, only a few signatures were enough and the fate of the Czechoslovak borderland was decided. In 1938, Nazi leader Adolf Hitler agreed with representatives of Great Britain, France and Italy that he would take over the Sudetenland without a shot and attach them to Germany. Czechoslovak soldiers who were ready to defend themselves after general mobilization had to compose weapons because of this political act, with a great deal of exceptions. However, it was not over and the first German troops crossed the former border of Czechoslovakia on October 1, 1938. Half a year later Hitler occupied the whole Czechoslovakia and on September 1, 1939 he attacked Poland. This started World War II. This conflict cost more than 62 million lives and is still the largest and most devastating war encounters in human history.
As a topic for literary and film creators is still current to this day, which is confirmed by an incredible number of films that were made and still made. Screenwriters, directors and composers are gradually honoring the heroes and ensure that their actions do not fall in forgetting. A sequence of overwhelming events, heroes and participants who have put into the blood of one of the most difficult fighting in history. Munich betrayal, Warsaw ghetto, which suffered 450,000 Jews, battle for England with significant participation of Czechoslovak pilots, two years of siege of the Soviet city of Leningrad by a group Allied troops in Normandy… These and other daunting events with sensitivity and humility will try to remind you of music, word and pictorial projection.
Masaryk, Leningrad Symphony, ESO, Pearl Harbor or Devil in the clouds performed by the Czech National Symphony Orchestra, conductor Steven Mercurio and actor David Švehlík will begin the international music festival Prague Proms 2025. Because thanks to the real heroes we are here.
