About event
Hostia Divadla Studio dance:
Grouping: Cie GRACHOVÁ / SZUTER
Name of the Performance: Colliding stories
Colliding stories is an interactive multidisciplinary duet /Silvia Grachová and Yann Szuter/ of approximately 50 minutes in length, in which two artists from different cultures, languages and movement techniques meet. The performance connects contemporary dance and circus art and explores the themes of fragility, support, obstacles and cooperation through Cyr wheel, aerial hoop, acrodance, partner acrobatics and multilingual spoken word.
The project was created over three years across Europe and was shaped by almost a thousand meetings with the audience. The premiere took place in August 2025 in collaboration with the Lithuanian composer Ritą Mačiliūnaitė at the Arts Printing House in Vilnius.
The inspiration is the paradox of parallel trajectories - paths that seem destined never to cross and yet sometimes meet. The work reflects the unpredictability, but also the inevitability of meetings, the fragility of human relationships and the strength that arises from mutual support and cooperation. It also explores how personal history shapes movement and reveals layers of identity, conflict, and understanding.
Cyr wheel and aerial hoop are not just tools here, but full-fledged partners and distinctive scenographic elements that shape and carry the story itself. By blurring the boundaries between dance and circus, they open up new possibilities and challenges and emphasize the need for their full acceptance in order to fulfill the vision of the project.
So there is movement: their habits, techniques and different aesthetic approaches. There is also language, cultural background, experience. Ways of being, thinking, different conditions - a lot of uniqueness that they want to show in order to transcend them. At the same time, they are looking for common points, new methods, excuses and challenges for cooperation. They look for threads that can be carried into the daily lives of all of us, to support other ways of functioning and the need to create together.
They like to say that this work speaks of them so that it can speak of all of us.
