Health-IT Talk: IT security: Using AI for resilient hospital operations
Event by: SIBB // Digitalverband Berlin-Brandenburg
Location: avodaq AG, Gutenbergstraße 15, Berlin - Bezirk Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf
About event
At the Health-IT Talk Berlin Brandenburg, experts from medical care, industry, politics and digital health meet to discuss the future of a networked, digital and at the same time regionally anchored healthcare system.
Lectures:
// Recognize. Understand. Act. - With AI for resilient hospital operations
Speaker: Florian Schröder - Senior Consultant Digital Business at avodaq AG
Clinics are under increasing pressure. IT infrastructures are becoming more complex, failures or security incidents have a direct impact on care, and at the same time there is a lack of time and resources to always react to disruptions. In this lecture, Florian Schröder will show how modern approaches to data analysis and artificial intelligence can help to stabilize hospitals' IT landscape in a forward-looking manner. Instead of waiting for warnings, it's about recognizing patterns early, understanding connections and taking targeted action. Before a failure occurs! Examples illustrate how hospitals can examine and monitor their digital infrastructure so that it becomes more robust, adaptive and resilient to internal and external disruptions. The aim is a new form of digital resilience that strengthens hospital operations instead of putting a strain on them.
// NIS2 implementation in Germany: New cybersecurity obligations for companies and critical infrastructures
Speakers:
Lorenz Wascher - lawyer and counsel in the Berlin office of Dentons. He primarily advises on legal issues relating to data protection, information security and artificial intelligence.
Karolina VonkovaLL.M. (Medical Law) - Lawyer and Senior Associate at Dentons Berlin. Karolina specializes in advising clients in the life sciences sector.
With the draft of the NIS 2 Implementation and Cybersecurity Strengthening Act (NIS2UmsuCG) passed by the federal government on July 30, 2025, the EU NIS 2 Directive will be incorporated into German law. This lecture highlights the far-reaching effects of the new legislation on the German economy and in particular on healthcare companies as critical infrastructure.
The scope of application is expanding dramatically: instead of the previous around 4,500, around 29,500 companies will be affected in the future. The speakers explain the distinction between “particularly important” and “important facilities” and the respective consequences. Healthcare companies occupy a special position: As critical infrastructure, they are essential for the security of supply for the population and are therefore subject to particularly strict requirements for their cybersecurity. The focus of the lecture is on the new obligations: comprehensive risk management, three-stage reporting processes for cybersecurity incidents, registration with the BSI, training obligations for employees and management bodies as well as requirements for IT security in the supply chain.
The speakers present concrete recommendations for action - from the impact analysis to the establishment from an ISMS to supply chain security. In view of the delayed implementation (deadline: October 17, 2024) and the threat of sanctions, the speakers appeal to affected companies to begin compliance measures immediately. Particular attention is paid to the role of the BSI as a central contact point and the specific challenges for the health sector, whose digitalization and networking create new areas of attack.
