About event
Habib Koité - Guitar, Singing/Aly Keita - Balafon/Lamine Cissokho - Kora/Mama Koné - percussion
Balafon Aly, with ivory coast and with a renowned Senegalese player on Lamin Cissokho. The quartet of the heirs of the famous Griots dynasties, complemented by the Koity court percussionist Mama Koné, will be presented for the first time on October 21 at the Prague Futurum Club. One of the most respected Malian musicians also performed in the Czech Republic in an occasional line -up with American bluesman Erik Bibb. This time, however, we have a chance to experience Habiba Koité quite differently. In the line -up of the Mandé Sila, celebrating the musical tradition of diverse but linguistically related ethnic groups, inhabiting a number of today's West African countries from Senegal to Mali or the Coast of ivory to Nigeria. The band also refers to the famous history and cultural legacy of the Kingdom of Mandin. From generation to generation passed by the heritage of griot, royal troubadura and chronicles, the Mandé took the silo at the same time. In the original repertoire, reflecting, in addition to the modern concept of West African genres, jazz or songwriting experience of musicians. The innovative approach has the protagonists in common. To realize the idea of an American promoter of Habiba Koité concerts, put together a significant individuality and compile its kind of supers groups, but it was not obvious.
"It is a new experience for all of us. On the contrary, I never played with a drummer and a quartet in the line -up. The American tour at the end of 2024 turned out excellent. The group played excellently and received an extremely positive response. Which logically led to the plan of another tour, this time in Europe. The Father dedicated to the Balafon Aly, as it is in families with griot tradition. When Aly learned what he could have continued from his dad, he continued his studies with the respected Zouratium Coulibaly and at the Art Academy in Abidjan. He soon encountered a reduction in the pentatonically tuned traditional Griot Balafon and expanded the instrument to a diatonic, allowing, among other things, overlaps into jazz harmonies. The legend of Aly's virtuosity soon grew up the boundaries of his native country, and worked with such stars as Omar Sosa, Joe Zawinul, Pharoah Sanders, Gurt Trilok and Jan Garbarek. He also leads his own trio, the Magic Balafon Quartet and performs solo. Its solo or fellow diskography includes more than a dozen albums. It is currently located in Berlin, where it acquired the prestigious German Jazz Price for 2022 in the category "Non -standard tools". In our country, Aly performed, for example, in the trio of Aly Keízta, Lucas Niggli & Jan Galega Brönnimann. Father San Cissokho gave him the player's training. Lamine's great -uncle and inspiring was none other than Lalo Keb Drame, called the "King of Kora". Already as a small Lamine, he interpreted traditional Music Music at the Crown. In mere interpretation, however, Lamine did not stay, enthusiastic about writing and arranging his own musical ideas. Later he added jazz and oriental music to his inspiration. And also the Nordic folklore, simply because he moved to Sweden. Cissokh's music thus gained unprecedented variety. His teammates include the Indian player on the Oriental Slide guitar Manish Pingle, with which they released the New Continents album (2019). Or French jazz pianist Olivier Hutman. Cissokho has so far filmed six profile or co -bands, which fulfills the credo of life: "My music is my soul, my heritage, my voice for peace and respect." It comes from the noble family line of the Khasson ethnic group. As a guitarist, he is self -taught, but he gained pentatonic tuning of the instrument and musical feeling at all thanks to his grandfather, who played the traditional "lute" of the N'Ngni. Koité studied at the National Institute of Art in Bamak, he gained spurs as Sidemani Diabaté, and in 1988 he himself became a bandleader when he founded the band Bamada. A number of excellent Habib's albums and hits, proving the common roots of West African music and blues, rock and Latin, there is no need to remind the local listeners. With Habib Koité, including a project with Erik Bibb, he plays on the unhealthy percussion, but he also learned to control the lute N’Goni or Balafon from his parents, brothers and relatives. Since 2012 he has been a permanent member of Bamada, but he has found his own drum band in Bamako four years before. If he is not performing or not with Habib, he plays different tools with different groups in Mali.
