About event
MA Deborah Williams, PhD
This lecture profiles my current research project “Red Dance Shoe Stories”, which seeks to explore the stories of dancers from different backgrounds and cultures, but whose stories are all connected via the inclusion of a dance experience involving red dance shoes. The project is about the use of a defining artefact as a central point of inspiration in ethnographic research.
When: 26th November 12:30-14 classroom H2025
MA Deborah Williams, PhD holds a BA in Dance with a focus on education and community partnerships from Smith College (Five College Dance Department) USA. From the University of Roehampton in London, Deborah received both an MA in Dance Anthropology and a PhD in Dance. Her research is rooted in the fields of dance anthropology, ethnography, and oral history, and centres around highlighting the voices of non-professional dancers. Her current research areas include investigating dance, social value, and representation, and dance/movement within digital game design. Her most recent publication is, Dance, Performance and Visual Art: Intersections with Material Culture, (Palgrave 2024) where she served as both editor and contributor.
