Montreal, September 2025 - The legendary Canadian post-rock band Godspeed You! Black Emperor has removed their entire music catalog from Spotify. The decision, which has been in the making for some time, is a conscious act of protest against the streaming giant's business model. The move comes at a time when the discussion about fair remuneration, artists' rights and platform monopolies is becoming increasingly louder. With albums like F♯ A♯ ∞, Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven or Allelujah! Don't Bend! Ascend! Godspeed not only shaped the musical landscape, but also repeatedly made it clear that their art should not be dominated by capital. The deletion of their music on Spotify is a further expression of this attitude.
“We do not agree to leave our work on platforms that exploit musicians, promote algorithmic mediocrity and ultimately serve the same logic of platform capitalism that we have always opposed,” says a statement from the band. The band announced that they will continue to make their music available through independent channels such as Bandcamp, on vinyl and in local record stores.
Despite, or perhaps because of, their uncompromising attitude, the band will continue to perform live - with the intensity and power that has always characterized their concerts. On March 16, 2026 Godspeed You! Black Emperor in the Kreuzberg Festival Hall
