About event

Remembrance shared: Reminding shared: Past, present and future of dealing with the Nazi force crimes in Poland and in the divided and united Germany
The German-Polish Society Berlin e. V. and the Federal Foundation for processing the SED dictatorship cordially invite you to this cooperation event.

The relationships between Poland and Germany are still deeply shaped by the crimes of National Socialist Germany. There are considerable differences in the developments of the culture of remembrance. This applies in particular to different perspectives and narratives after the decades of division of Europe after the war, which also led to different perspectives and narratives in the GDR and the Federal Republic of Germany. Until the 1970s, there was no significant exchange between the neighboring socialist countries.
Only the Polish opposition movement of the 1980s had a lasting influence on the GDR citizens' right movement. Even after the normalization of bilateral relationships and the communication between Poland and the United Germany since 1990, many questions have remained virulent in public and social discourse: How is it reminded of the Nazi crimes in Poland 80 years after the end of the war in both countries? Do Poland and Germans share the memories? What can a common European memory culture look like? How do young people from both countries look at the relationships today? Chairman of the German-Polish Society Berlin e. V.
