About event
💧 Fountain of transformations
Experience the fountain a little differently. The Fountain of Transformations transforms firefighting equipment into a playful art installation that reacts to the heat and reminds us of the important role water plays in our cities. When launched, the sculptures come to life – creating water mist, sounds and changing water patterns that you can step into and become part of the work. From August 19, you can find it on Looka (the space between the new railway bridge and the Chynoran track).
🌊 About the event:
The Fountain of Transformations by the Lithuanian artistic duo Nomeda and Gediminas Urbonas was created in cooperation with the Opatovce Volunteer Fire Brigade. Here, fire hoses, jets and other equipment are transformed into a living water system that cools the space and at the same time invites visitors to a shared experience.
The installation connects art, technology and the theme of climate change. It reminds that water is not only a natural resource, but also a space for meetings, cooperation and new views of the city. The work is part of the curatorial program Aqua Vitae, which was prepared by the curator Lýdia Pribišová for Trenčín - European Capital of Culture 2026.
🎨 About the artists
Nomeda and Gediminas Urbonas are an artistic couple from Lithuania who work internationally at the intersection of artistic practice, research and education. They founded the Urbonas Studio platform, an interdisciplinary environment bringing together artists, scientists, designers and local communities to create projects focused on public space, ecology and civic imagination. Their work combines collaborative research with artistic experimentation across disciplines.
They have exhibited at major international events, including the Venice Biennale, Documenta, and the Biennale in São Paulo and Gwangju, where they have won several awards. Their work also includes publications and curatorial projects. Gediminas Urbonas works as a professor at MIT in the Art, Culture and Technology program, and Nomeda is a research associate at MIT.

💧 Disaster Fountain 💦
Experience a fountain in a completely different way. Disaster Fountain transforms firefighting equipment into a playful art installation that responds to rising temperatures while reminding us of the vital role water plays in our cities. Once activated, the sculptures come to life, creating water mist, sound, and ever-changing water patterns that invite you to step inside and become part of the artwork. From 19 August, you can find it at Looka (the area between the new railway bridge and the Chynorany railway line).
