About event
Negotiation is part of everyday working life — from salaries and responsibilities to deadlines, resources, priorities, and difficult workplace conversations. Yet many of us enter negotiations without a clear understanding of what we can realistically achieve, where our limits lie, or what alternatives we have.
This practical workshop will introduce you to three essential negotiation concepts and give you the opportunity to put them into practice.
What you'll learn
BATNA — your best alternative to a negotiated agreementWhat will you do if you don't reach a deal? Understanding your BATNA helps establish your negotiating position and influences the minimum outcome you are willing to accept.
Reservation Level — your walk-away pointWhat is the least favorable outcome you would accept before choosing your alternative? Defining this in advance can help you avoid accepting a deal that is worse than your alternatives.
Aspiration Level — what you're aiming forWhat would an ambitious but realistic outcome look like? Knowing your aspiration level helps you negotiate with a clear objective rather than simply reacting to the other party's proposals.
ZOPA — the Zone of Possible AgreementWhere do the two sides' acceptable outcomes overlap? Identifying the ZOPA helps you recognize when a mutually acceptable agreement is possible — and when it may not be.
From theory to practice
After a short, accessible introduction to these concepts, you'll take part in a one-on-one negotiation exercise with another participant.
You'll have the opportunity to prepare your negotiating position, engage in the negotiation, and experience firsthand how BATNA, reservation levels, aspiration levels, and the ZOPA shape the conversation.
This workshop is for you if you want to:
- Prepare more effectively for workplace negotiations
- Understand your own negotiating limits and objectives
- Recognize the space in which agreement is possible
- Approach negotiations with greater structure and confidence
- Practice negotiation in a realistic, low-risk setting
You don't need to be an experienced negotiator. The workshop is designed to give you a practical framework you can apply to your next real negotiation.
Come with curiosity. Leave with a framework you can use.
Reserve your place and put the theory into practice.
