About event
🎬 Film noir returns to Cinema Úsmev after 5 years! Easy to recognize, harder to define. Is it a genre, a style, or just a period cycle of films? Historians and critics have not yet found agreement on this, and it is this indeterminacy that adds to the "black" phenomenon's charm. Simply put, noir films are stylish crime films from the 40s and 50s of the 20th century with a specific gloomy atmosphere and an unmistakable visual aspect dominated by expressive lighting and shadowplay.
🎞️ We have prepared for you three essential American films noir from the 1940s and a cult Czechoslovak detective who found visual inspiration precisely in these overseas actions. All featured titles are adaptations of famous book authors: from representatives of the American "rough school" James M. Cain and Raymond Chandler to Eduard Fiker, the founder of the Czech detective.
🕵️♂️ The film offer is complemented by accompanying events: exhibition paintings based on the classic film noir, which were created by the brush of the academic painter Nikolaj Lesyk and an erudite lecture by a Czech playwright Noir Film Festival - by Milan Hain, entitled "From paper to screen: Noir adaptations in the era of classic Hollywood".
