The lecture is dedicated to central questions surrounding self-determination and dignity in the final stages of life. How can a self-determined life and death be organized in advanced age, in illness and in situations of suffering? What legal framework for patient autonomy and forms of “euthanasia” exist in Austria?
At the same time, the lecture highlights how fears and wishes to die at the end of life can be dealt with in a counseling context. In addition, the focus is also on the larger social developments and challenges in dealing with illness, suffering and disability as well as on the effects of the legalization of “euthanasia” on individuals and society as a whole.
The lawyer Mag. Antonia Busch-Holewik gives a well-founded introduction to the current Austrian legal situation - both on patient autonomy and on the topics of assisted suicide and killing on demand. Based on her many years of expertise in the bioethical field, Holewik also sheds light on the background of wishes to die and offers valuable inspiration for a sensitive approach to these sensitive topics.

Mag. Antonia Busch-Holewik (lawyer, expert in bioethical issues, many years of journalistic work and contract work)
