n of the second half of the 19th century , when the city of Vienna extended rapidly to the suburbs and within a few years Millions grew , the place for the naturally also increasing number of dead in the old cemeteries of the 18th century was scarce. In 1863 the Vienna municipal council decided to build the central cemetery, which is one of the largest cemeteries worldwide then as now as now, the "dead city" of Vienna 😳
