Emmanuelle Parrenin stood at the birth of French folk revivalism, similar to Shirley Collins across the Channel for the English one, but unlike her, she soon stopped entertaining her because of her rigidity. You can say that fortunately. With her pivotal solo debut Maison Rose from 1977, where she gives way to psychedelic and progressive influences, she thus created a French analogue to Vashti Bunyan, i.e. Linda Perhacs from across the Atlantic, who also managed to shape their own magical world on their idiosyncratic recordings, which only comes from folk, and the public then forgot about them for many years. After decades, all three were finally rightly appreciated by the younger generations.
But where the other two mentioned remained stylistically (even on much later albums), Emmanuelle was just breathing in further experiments. Thanks to her constant desire for the unknown, we already owe the anomalous composition of Topaz on her debut for foreshadowing trip hop almost twenty years before its regular appearance. But this is not the only phenomenon: five years ago, a completely unlikely collaboration with the phenomenal DJ and producer Detlef Weinrich, who is better known as Tolouse Low Trax, hosted Ghédalia Tazartès, among others, and the result will be remembered very little. The second solo album Maison Cube (2011) can sometimes evoke the poetics of Stereolab, but Parrenin can also play drone, jazz or free improv (recordings with Jean-Marc Foussat), she also performed live alongside Pierre Bastien (whose concert in Pardubice we ended the season last year) and Jandek.
Emmanuelle lost her hearing and balance in the early nineties after a serious accident. Despite unfavorable prognoses, both partially returned to her after long months in isolation, which she spent in an alpine lodge singing and perceiving the physical resonances of her instrument playing. She then spent many years helping similarly disadvantaged people through her own practice, but avoids the concept of art therapy. She herself comes from a musical family, her father was part of a string quartet and her mother a harp teacher, she taught herself to play the piano whatever she heard at home. He plays many instruments, but especially the ninera, harp and zither. She will be accompanied instrumentally by Jeff Dijoud (alias Eat Gas) in Prague.

A promising brand new project where a trio of musicians meet, at least two of whom should be very familiar to our visitors. Michal Vaľko aka Line Gate has been reliably spinning for years with his ambient sessions with ninera and vocals. Jakub Šimanský, as a pioneer of domestic guitar "primitivism", probably doesn't need to be widely introduced, especially his collaborations with Tomáš Niesner garnered acclaim (the two are also connected by their former work in the noise rock band Unna), but here he only changed the classical guitar for the lap steel and the banjo. Ján Podracký, who provides recorders and occasionally harmonica or melodica in the trio, works at FAVU and is active in the field of contemporary classical music. Over the years, he had several premieres of his compositions at the Ostrava Days festival. Together they weave a purely acoustic and strongly hypnotic tapestry of sound, the debut recording is still awaited.
