About event
Edward Elgar's monumental oratorio "The Dream of Gerontius" takes you on a deeply moving musical journey. The masterpiece, premiered in 1900, tells of the soul of the dying Gerontius, which after death is led through heaven, purgatory and divine judgment.
Here Elgar created music of overwhelming emotional power: from the desperate prayers of the dying man to the triumphant choirs of the angels to the shattering moments of the divine encounter. The dramatic orchestral sounds, the haunting solo parts and the powerful choral passages merge into a total work of art that won't let you go.
Helena Köhne, mezzo-soprano
