DJ 0073 / The story of shellac
Tuesday 24/03/2026 at 18.30
TUKE Faculty of Arts
F12 studio, 1st floor
Nothing for a long time and now two Musics on FUTU right after each other.
After last week's charming performance by Oliver Pichnarčík alias Oskar Plachta or Xyrrra, another Tuesday with music is planned at the Faculty of Arts in Košice. Again, our former student and current 1st year doctoral student, Adam Slezák alias DJ 0073. This pseudonym of his was created during the admissions to the faculty, when he was assigned this serial number. And now, after 10 years, he comes under this name to present his project The Story of Shellac, which will not only be a taster of sounds, but also a learning experience with the continuation of vinyl DJing.
DJ 0073 in the art of DJing is mainly dedicated to collecting records from the old school hip-hop era, which inevitably includes work with vinyls - scratch and juggling, which were the beginning of this culture. Through this hobby, he came to study the history of music carriers and became familiar with this topic and completed his collection of shellac carriers.
As he himself says, "the story of shellac is a combination of the history of music carriers with samples of the authentic sound of music carriers, so-called records, as we know them today. The use of a material called shellac opened the door to the world of sound recording, and for the first time in history, one could hear a reproduced recording. From material properties to genre orientation from the period of 1900 until the period in which this primordial material was replaced by the vinyl records known today". In this context, the author was particularly influenced by Robert Buček's book - Discography of Slovak historical sound recordings: gramophone records 1900 - 1946, which is the most fundamental summary in the field of history and collectivization of shellac records and the predecessors of these carriers.
