About event

Exploring the realms of the grotesque, the bouffon and satire, this module poses the question of how a changing body creates new potentialities for creator and creation. We will ask where the impulse to change shape comes from and how shapeshifting and distortion shift perspectives for both audience and performer. Entering into the different worlds of the bouffon - the darker, more social cousin of the clown, which shapeshifts and morphs to throw a mirror up to society, this module invites participants to find the pleasure in embodying exaggeration and speaking truth to power. We will explore the pressures that compel a body to metamorphose from within and how psychological and environmental factors disrupt bodies and carve social grotesques into shape. Playing with the mocking, the naive and the vulgar, in groups and in solos - we will also use materials and elements of costume to create new worlds of embodied possibility for participants.
