About event
💬 Should we be worried about security in the city? Come to an open discussion about security.
Security in the city, not only here, but throughout Slovakia, is becoming one of the biggest challenges today. We all see it. More and more thefts, aggressive behavior, conflicts. More dealers. More fear - even in broad daylight.
Experts have been drawing attention to the causes for several years: an increase in the number of people on the income poverty line as a result of irresponsible state policies, deteriorating mental health of society. Spillover of aggression from the online space to the streets. The government entered such an already explosive situation with an unfortunate amendment to the criminal laws. Theft of up to 700 euros is no longer a crime. And not even with repeated thefts. In Slovakia, we have cases where the police dealt with specific people for repeated thefts up to 60 times within a few months. In addition to thefts, other crimes are added to the street - drugs, aggressive and harassing behavior - and an avalanche effect is created. The government is turning a blind eye to the growing problem.
Why security in our cities is deteriorating, what impact the amendment to the criminal law has and what we can do about it will be discussed by:
🟧 prof. JUDr. Tomáš Strémy, PhD. – Professor of Criminal Law
🟧 Deputy Commander of the Intervention Unit and Canine Department of the Bratislava City Police
🟧 Matúš Vallo – Mayor of Bratislava
And you!
🎤 Hosted by Becca
🗓️ Monday November 10, 18:00–20:00
📍 P. O. Hviezdoslava Theatre

After the moderated discussion, there will be space for you too - your questions, experiences, observations. Come and say what's bothering you on the streets. What you see daily. What are you experiencing? Because security cannot be about artificially enhanced numbers in spreadsheets. It is about what is really happening in our streets, villages, and shops. It's about whether you feel safe going home. Whether a mother can send her child to school without fear. About whether society still believes that the law and the state protect them.
We all want to feel safe again - in our streets, in our housing estates, in our cities. Security is not a luxury. It is the basis of people's trust in the state.
