Event by: Hana Tillmanová - Historický tanec
Location: Restaurace Na Marjánce, Bělohorská 262/35, Praha 6
About event
Summer course of ballroom dances of the 19th century.
Date: July 27 – August 1, 2026
Venue: Sál Na Marjánce, Bělohorská 35/262, Prague 6
Lecturer: Hana Tillmanová
Course content:
Dance preparation for participation in period dance events from the Empire to after Art Nouveau, which means learning and practicing important dances of the varied repertoire of the long 19th century. The selection is based on Central European sources and includes popular and forgotten dances of Bohemia and Central Europe. We will choose specific dances on the spot, taking into account the level and interest of the participants.
Dance lessons are conducted as a small class and take into account the different experience of those interested - from beginners to advanced and proficient. Knowledge of the waltz and the polka is an advantage.
There will be more quatrains on the program, as the weekly course is an excellent opportunity both for learning new ones and for repeating and practicing quatrains learned earlier.
This year's novelty is Slowanka, a quatrain by the Prague dance master Johann Raab, traditionally there will also be the two most famous talks - Czech and Moravian, in a salon style, to which we will add even newer ones Czechoslovak conversation.
From pair dances, we will practice čardáš, mazurka, waltz, polka, neighborhood dance, ländler, kápík, Pilky, and for those interested, foxtrot and tango in the period concept of the early 20th century.
Time schedule:
• morning: 3 hours, 9:30 – 12:30 (including Saturday)
• afternoon: 2 hours, approx 13:30 – 15:30
Ceremonial conclusion
The culmination of the course will be on Saturday afternoon as a joint celebratory dance of selected dances.
We welcome if the participants want to show off in their own period clothes (the whole long 19th century, i.e. from Empire to Art Nouveau). Participation in the final dance is voluntary for course graduates, and you can also participate in customized non-period clothing - ladies preferably a long formal dress with a wide skirt; gentlemen a matching formal suit.

You will receive a request for payment to the e-mail you specify in the application. Your reservation will be valid after payment of the course fee.
